Will movers transport my car or motorcycle?

Most local moving companies, including Bears Moving Co., don't transport vehicles on a household-goods truck — it's a different license class (auto transport carriers) and requires a different type of trailer. For an in-state move, the simplest option is to drive the car yourself or hire a local tow operator. For an interstate move, we coordinate with vetted auto transport partners so your vehicle can ship on the same timeline as your household goods. Just ask us during your quote and we'll handle the referral.

Can movers move a safe, and does the weight affect cost?

Accepted Answer

Yes — we move residential safes regularly, including most gun safes up to roughly 1,000 lbs. Weight does affect the job: anything over 300 lbs requires a 4-wheel appliance dolly and at least two movers, and over 600 lbs typically requires a 3- or 4-person crew. The bigger cost driver isn't weight but access — stairs, narrow doorways, and tight turns can turn a 30-minute safe job into a 2-hour one. We always ask for the make, model, weight, and a photo of the path before quoting.

Can movers move a fish tank with water still in it?

Accepted Answer

No — never with water and never with fish inside. Even a 20-gallon tank weighs around 170 lbs full, and the glass seams aren't engineered to handle sloshing weight in transit. The tank will leak, crack, or shatter. The right process: rehome the fish temporarily in bagged tank water, drain the tank completely, transport the empty tank wrapped in moving blankets, and re-set it up at the new home before reintroducing the fish. We move empty tanks safely; we don't move live aquariums.

What food items can and can't be moved by professional movers?

For local moves within metro Atlanta, we'll move sealed, non-perishable food (canned goods, pasta, sealed snacks) but recommend you handle anything frozen, refrigerated, or in opened containers yourself. For interstate moves, federal regulations and most carrier policies prohibit perishables, alcohol, and anything that could leak or attract pests. Plants, opened liquids, and refrigerated/frozen food should always travel with you in a cooler. The simplest rule: if it could spoil, leak, or smell on a hot truck, take it in your car.
