Packing & Move-Day Prep FAQs — Atlanta Movers
A little prep saves real money on hourly moves. These are the prep questions Atlanta customers ask us most.
Should I empty dresser drawers before the movers arrive? — Light, soft items (folded clothes, linens) can stay in the drawers of a sturdy wood dresser — it actually saves you boxes and time. Heavy items (books, tools, jewelry, anything breakable) should always come out. The two non-negotiables: empty all drawers in particle-board or IKEA furniture (the joints can't handle the weight in transit), and remove any valuables or important documents. Bears Moving Co. wraps the dresser in furniture pads and shrink-wraps the drawers shut so nothing slides open on the truck.
Do movers pack and unpack, or just transport? — Most full-service Atlanta moving companies — Bears Moving Co. included — offer three tiers: transport only (you pack everything), partial packing (we pack fragile items like kitchens, glassware, and art), and full-service packing (we pack the entire home, room by room). Unpacking is a separate service most companies will quote on request — typically the crew unpacks boxes into rooms but doesn't put items away in cabinets or closets. Decide which tier you want at quote time so we send the right crew size and number of boxes.
