32. Moving Into an Apartment With an Elevator: What Movers Need to Know
Moving into a high-rise or mid-rise apartment in Atlanta — whether in Midtown, Buckhead, Old Fourth Ward, or anywhere else with a building manager — means you are not just moving your stuff. You are navigating a shared building with rules, schedules, and logistics that can slow everything down if you haven't planned ahead. The elevator is the single biggest variable.
Most multi-story apartment buildings with elevators require residents to reserve the service elevator in advance for move-in and move-out. The service elevator is usually larger than the passenger elevator and may have padding or protective panels. If you don't reserve it, you may arrive on moving day to find that the elevator is in use, unavailable, or that building management has denied access to the moving crew.
Contact your building manager or leasing office as soon as you have a confirmed move date — ideally two to three weeks out. Ask specifically: Is there a service elevator? Does it require reservation? Is there a deposit or insurance certificate required from the moving company? What are the permitted move-in hours? Getting this information early gives your moving company time to prepare.
