Furniture and boxes can be protected at the truck door, moved quickly through covered entries, and kept dry if the process is managed well. The crew's level of preparation matters more than the weather itself in many cases.
Ask your mover if they carry waterproof covers and plastic shrink wrap — most professional companies do. · Have large garbage bags on hand as a backup for boxes and electronics. · Lay down floor protection (plastic runners or towels) inside both homes to prevent water damage and slipping. · Move electronics, art, and documents last and in sealed containers.

When You Should Consider Rescheduling
There is a meaningful difference between rain and a severe storm. If the forecast calls for lightning, heavy sustained downpours, flash flooding, or wind strong enough to affect truck safety, rescheduling is the responsible call. Atlanta sees genuine summer storms that roll through fast but hit hard. Attempting to move in those conditions puts your belongings and your crew at risk.
Watch for these signs that rescheduling may be the better choice: standing water in your driveway or at the destination, a National Weather Service severe storm warning active in your area, wind strong enough to make carrying large furniture dangerous, or a moving route that involves known flood-prone corridors like parts of Buckhead or East Atlanta near creek lines.
How to Handle a Same-Day Weather Call
Call your mover early — before the crew is en route if possible. Reputable companies have policies for weather-related rescheduling and will work with you far more easily if you communicate promptly. Ask about any fees associated with a same-day postponement, and check whether your moving date deposit rolls over to the rescheduled date.
