43. What You Should Have Ready for the Movers When They Arrive

The difference between a move that flows smoothly and one that stalls out often comes down to what's done before the truck pulls up. Moving crews work efficiently when they walk into a home that's ready — boxes labeled, pathways clear, decisions already made. When things aren't ready, the clock runs and the job gets harder. Here's exactly what to have in place before your movers arrive.

This one sounds obvious, but it's the most common source of move-day delays. Every box should be fully packed and sealed before the crew arrives — not mostly packed or "just a few more things to throw in." Open boxes can't be safely stacked, and a crew waiting for you to finish packing is a crew that can't make forward progress.

Labeling matters too. Write the destination room on the top and at least one side of every box. This lets movers place boxes in the right room at the destination without stopping to ask — which adds up to real time savings over the course of a full move.
