A low price and a professional-looking website do not equal a trustworthy company. Here are the red flags that should slow you down before you commit.
Pricing Red Flags
Price is the most common vector for moving fraud. A quote that seems dramatically lower than every other estimate you've received isn't a great deal — it's a warning. Rogue movers routinely offer low-ball quotes to win the booking, then hit customers with inflated charges on move day, after their belongings are already on the truck.

Company Credibility Red Flags
Legitimate moving companies have verifiable identities. They have a physical address, a license number, a USDOT number, and a track record you can check. When any of those elements are missing or unclear, the risk goes up sharply.
gov · The company's name changes depending on where you find them online — a common rogue mover tactic · No BBB listing, or a BBB profile with multiple unresolved complaints about held goods or surprise charges · Reviews that are entirely five-star with no detail, or reviews that spike suddenly within a short window
Move-Day Behavior to Watch For
Some red flags only emerge on move day — but knowing them in advance helps you recognize and respond to them before you're in a bad position. A crew that shows up in an unmarked truck, immediately revises the estimate upward without a clear explanation, or asks for full payment before your items are unloaded should raise immediate concern.
Rogue movers sometimes use the leverage of having your belongings on their truck to extract additional payment. If you've verified the company's credentials upfront and have a written agreement in hand, you're in a far stronger position to push back or escalate to Georgia DPS.
